February News & Website Update - February 1st 2005

February is here already and Spring is on its way, just from a long way away! The jeyboys are battling the Chiltern mud and the Darksiders are tripping out at Chicksands and on the Esher Shore. The recent trip to South Wales was a great success, with riders completing the Gap Loop and riding at Afan - photos from the trip are here.

In this update, the C1XV Constitution is made available online, some new members, updated links and some other bits of tidying up.

C1XV AGM - 3rd December 2004

The C1XV AGM for 2004 was held last week in Chalfont St Giles. AS well as a review of the year, a new committee was elected in to run the club. As of now we are having a three member 'official' committe consisting of Captain, Secretary and Treasurer, with a couple of volunteers to help out with other things. The new committee is as follows:

  • Captain - Tony Peverill
  • Secretary - Anne Brown
  • Treasurer - Paul Cooper
  • Safety Officer - Mark Johnstone
  • Trail Advisor & Forestry Commission Liason - Simon North

As ever, the AGM featured the C1XV Awards for the past year, with notable mentions to Dave Perkins, Dave Barter, Tim Beresford and Jay Tejani for being drunk, looking gay, breaking things and falling in a puddle respectively!

The two main awards for the evening were also made. The C1XV Rider of the Year was named as Mark Johnstone and Alex Leigh was named as the 'Prince of Mince'. Congratulations to everyone there and thanks to all who attended and organised the event.

Merry Christmas to everyone in the 1st XV and everyone else too!

C1XV News - 26th September

The nights are drawing in and so we approach the autumn, filled with the hope of a dry October with crisp mornings and firm ground and yet troubled by the trepidation of the closing nights and the ensuing night forays into the woods with only a thin beam of halogen (or in some cases HID) light to brighten our way. And yes, another web update

Bikes
Shock horror!! Al hasn't bought a bike for two months!! But his Spot has finally turned up and it looks lovely. Tim's Klein works again, if intermittently. Nick has broken an Inbred, got a replacement one and shockingly gone back to having some gears with a spangly red Pastey Howler. Watty has bought Nick's Foes. Brad has a shiny new full suss Specialized, which rumour has it is ultra-pimp. Pev's built a shiny silver Kona singlespeed - in fact just about everyone has built, is building or is riding a singlespeed - its a disease I tell you! And Grahame has just bought another DeKerf (just don't tell Josie ok?).

Other News
This year's C1XV Summer meet is currently being planned, so expect some more details on that soon. Additional congratulations to C1XV member Jon Fancourt and his wife Kris on having a baby boy last month.

C1XV Summer News - 5th August

The summer is finally here, and despite the odd thunderstorm, the rains of last month are now (hopefully) behind us and we can enjoy a warm second half of the summer.

Web Site
Not too much to report here, just a few minor changes and additions here and there. The forum however continues to be very busy and is now the hub of Chiltern 1XV activity.

Members
A few additions over the last couple of months, so welcome to Andy Bell, Mike May, Bob Slaughter and Martyn Buckley. Steve Cull broke his collarbone a while back and is now almost back on the bike - see you back on the trails soon Steve!

Rides
Plenty going on in the usual places, despite the variable weather and trail conditions. A few lucky members have been out to the Alps already this summer and have returned mostly unscathed (the same may not be said for all their bikes!). There's another trip to the Peaks coming up in August, which promises to once more be stonking. And Ride for a Flight is taking place this weekend (Sat 7th/8th August), to raise money for the Air Ambulance.

C1XV News - 26th April

Like the first record played on Radio 1, this news item will be revered in the annals of C1XV history. Misty eyed future members will remember duey eyed those halcyon days when the 2nd version of the web site came into being. They will gush over the format, grow moist at the quality of the images and wonder in awe at the bullshit talked in the forum. Shame this item is going to be so crap then. Never mind eh?

Web Site
If you're here, you've clearly found it. On the forum, we're discussing the plans for it and your opinions will help to shape those plans. Well they will if you send us money. And I mean lots. Changes to a few words, call it a pint, but for major new sections involving chocolate, kylie, her sister and live mud wrestling, send a truck full of used notes (small denominations, non-sequential bills in bags marked 'SWAG' please - TB).

Rides
We're still out there slogging through the mud. Conditions are improving as riders can actually be identified at the end of the ride rather than just being tagged as "Swamp Thing 1". I have been traumatised by an evening ride in Cadsten which was without doubt the worst mud I've ever seen. Think flashback to the Somme. My bike was infected with trenchfoot. Still Spring is here and soon we'll have super dry, fast and dusty trails to play on. No honestly.

Members
Up to 45 now. How the hell did this happen? For all of you lucky enough to be in the first tranch of members, your resubscription dues are winging their way through the global superhighway. Anyone who feels they don't want to rejoin shall be, of course, treated with dignity and respect. Please ensure, however, there is someone to sign for the horse's head.

Bikes
It's all been going off down at pimp central with each member selling organs on ebay to outbling their fellow rider. Andy Bell has a new carbon trek that weighs about the same as an empty crisp packet, Tony Pev secured some Scott Scandium beauty which he's forsaken his various Marins for. Steve Cull has the stealthiest FSR in the whole world, so black, it actually sucks light in and so shall be known as the black hole. Tim's gone all freeridey and is turning his Cotic into a jumpin' huckin' beast, Mike's talking about getting a singlespeed, Nick has a singlespeed and is riding it everywhere extremely quickly and I had a singlespeed but it went back due to leporous paint work. I do, which should not be a suprise for those of you who know me, have a new one on order. And 'breaker of all things' Brad Stroud bust a seatpost and a wheel so far this year. You can find Brad by identifiying the grumpy looking bloke in the middle of a Spesh ground zero event.

Trips
We'll have been to Snowdon by the time you read this. Whether we got back ok, you can probably read in the local papers. There are lots of rides being organised including the monthly 'away ride' which will see us take on new trails all around the UK. If you have a good idea for an away ride, then get posting. The Peaks trip is full and already looking like something specifically designed to remove limbs and livers, the Spain trip needs someone to organise it and a few lucky people are back off to Morzine to watch the World Champs. And I, for one, am extremely happy for them. Sort of. In a 'you lucky buggers' kind of way.

Other News
Luke "MadBadger" Rake and Ros (well, mainly Ros if we're being biologically accurate) have had a little boy named Campbell. Luke is currently wondering what sleep is while Ros is recovering from, and I'm quoting directly from an informed source, shitting a sofa. I know who I feel the most sorry for. Best wishes to the Rake family from all of us here.
