The Chiltern 1st XV MTB Club - Riding Bikes, Drinking Beer, Talking Bollox

Formed in 2003, The Chiltern 1st XV Mountain Bike Club spawned from a group of friends that rode together around the Chilterns, organising rides on Bikemagic and going to the pub afterwards. The club has now been established for several years and membership continues to grow, with the club itself having a a more refined structure - however, basically, we're still just a group of riders going out biking, near and far, and then going to the pub!

The current committee of riders are:

  • Matt Butler
  • Anne Brown
  • Tim Beresford - Webmeister

Want to become a Member?

Cost: Ten Pounds.

Benefits:

  • Insurance - The pivotal benefit of becoming a C1XV member is the liability insurance provided for riding. The C1XV is a member of the British Cycling Federation (BCF) and all its members benefit from the third party liability insurance provided by this and the additional legal aid of the BCF should you be involved in an incident whilst on a club ride.

  • YHA - The club is a member of the YHA and as such allows members access to over 4,000 Youth Hostels in over 80 countries and various discounts at local attractions and some retail outlets. Details can be found on the YHA website.

  • Club Discount - At a number of local bike shops, including Saddle Safari in Marlow, Pedalon in Tadley and Cyclecare in High Wycombe.

  • 1XV Branded clothing - This is available at reasonable prices to all members, including ride shirts (long and short sleeved), long sleved t-shirts and a plethora of other items like beanie hats.

  • 1XV Club Stickers - For your bike, toolbox or car, featuring 'www.1xv.co.uk' in white or black text.

  • Priority booking for away weekends - regardless of their location, these weekends are exceptional value and a great laugh, and the riding is usually pretty good too. Club funds secure the deposit on accommodation selected by trail location/bike security/stupidly cheap bar.

  • Baton Des Lesbos - As a member you are eligible to join the battle for the highly sought after prizes that are the Baton des Lesbos and the Shield of Sappho. You may think that these are badges of dishonour but we'd like to reassure you than many 1st XVrs have eagerly grasped the Baton and only relinquished it under intense mincing from another member.

  • AGM - Held every January, an all round good night with food, beer and amusement, as we look at the year gone by and award those people that have excelled themselves (in their chosen (rarely bike related) field and actually in a field in some cases!). Most importantly, the 'C1XV Man of the Year' award and the 'Shield of Sappho' are presented to the members that the executive committee believe are most deserving of them.
